Denim Expert Limited has planned to organize an international Denim Trade Show in Bangladesh aimed at popularizing the brand in international denim industry that will take place in a bit in November.

Organizers of the expo revealed the decision at a press briefing held at a hotel in the city on Saturday. Addressing the press meet, the speakers said they would be organizing an ‘Invite Only’ event to make Bangladesh as ‘One Stop Sourcing Platform’ for denim industry.

IMG_8544The organizers are expecting a high turnout of apparel entrepreneurs, businessmen, fashion professionals and stakeholders of the industry from Europe, US, UK and several Asian countries. The Expo will be held at Hotel Radisson Blue Water Garden in Dhaka on November 11 -12, 2014.

Chief initiator of the expo and Managing Director of the organization Mostafiz Uddin said, “Our primary purpose is to create a platform for Denim Stakeholders with which all will be benefitted”.

He also termed the initiative as a not-profitable one. “We expect Denim goods from Bangladesh will yield greater brand value in the global market from this initiative”. Plenary sessions and seminars will also be held on Trends of Denim Goods and Washing during the expo. Representatives from participating organizations and institutions will be participating in the programs.

The Expo will enrich Bangladesh’s denim industry, by generating huge quantity of export order from UK, German, Spain, Holland, Italy, France and USA expected expo initiators.

Bangladesh is the 2nd largest country which exports Denim in Europe and 3rd largest in USA. 5600 factories Export 200 million pieces of Denim from Bangladesh over 120 countries. Total 4 million people are working in RMG Factories which is a $20 billion industry. At present Bangladesh have 25 Denim Fabric Manufacturers which produce 20 million yards per month. This full fills 40 % of total demand and 60% fabric still needs to be imported.

The aim of the expo is to showcase Bangladeshi denim brands to the global market and to make Bangladesh a ‘one-stop sourcing platform’ for denim, Mostafiz Uddin, managing director of Denim Expert Limited said.

The non-profit initiative would create a platform for Bangladeshi denim makers, and help them yield greater brand value in the global market, he said.

Organizers are expecting good participation from apparel entrepreneurs and other industry stakeholders from the US, Europe and several Asian countries at the ‘Invite Only’ event.

Bangladesh is currently the second-largest country which exports denim to Europe and third largest in exports to the US.

At present, there are 25 denim fabric manufacturers in Bangladesh, who meet about 40 percent of the domestic demand and the remaining 60 percent is imported. Bangladesh earns around US$ 600 million per annum form denim exports to the global market.

Five new denim factories are going into operation within the next one year to meet the growing demand for the widely consumed fabrics locally and internationally, organisers of a denim exposition said yesterday.
“Of the five factories, two will start operation very soon as the installation of machinery has already been completed,” said MS Hasan, a director of Partex Denim, one of the organisers of Bangladesh Denim Expo to be held in November in Dhaka.
However, Hasan, who was talking to reporters at a press conference at Sonargaon Hotel in the capital, did not elaborate on who are going to open the denim factories.
Currently, the number of denim factories in the country is 25 and they produce 20 million yards of fabrics a month, he said.
Bangladesh exports denim fabrics and denim-made garments worth more than $600 million a year, Hasan said.
Bangladesh produces only 40 percent of the denim fabrics needed for the local market and exports, while the rest is met through imports, he said.
Mostafiz Uddin, managing director of Denim Expert Ltd, a factory at Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone in Chittagong and the main organiser of the exhibition, said Bangladesh is the second largest denim exporter to the European countries and the third to the US.
“But unfortunately no such exhibition had taken place in Bangladesh earlier. We organised the first denim show in March,” Mostafiz said, adding that 11 foreign companies participated in the first expo.
Such exhibitions usually take place in London, Paris, Germany and the US, he said.
“We are expecting more participants from Italy, Turkey, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the November expo that will have 30 stalls for domestic and international exhibitors,” he said.
Mostafiz said their aim is to make Bangladesh the largest denim exporter globally.
World famous designers will also participate in the exhibition, while some seminars on the latest denim technologies will be held on the sidelines.
“We are going through a difficult time. Such an exhibition will have a positive impact on the garment industry,” he said.
Mohammad Kamal Uddin, managing director of Raymotex Corporation, said: “We have the capacity and markets for denim products, but we need raw materials.”
“When we are performing below our capacity due to domestic problems, some neighbouring countries are bagging higher orders. We need to go for high-end denim products to grab more market share,” said Shoel Rana, a director of Nassa Group.
